A New Monitoring System for Mega Projects
The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has operationalised PAIMANA (Project Assessment, Infrastructure Monitoring & Analytics for Nation-building), a new web-based portal replacing the older OCMS-2006 system, for mandated monitoring of Central Sector Infrastructure Projects worth ₹150 crore and above.
Built on a "one data, one entry" principle, PAIMANA is integrated with the Integrated Project Monitoring Portal (IPMP) of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), allowing around 60% of projects to update automatically without manual data entry.
As of January 2026, the portal tracked 1,702 ongoing infrastructure projects across 17 central ministries and departments, with a combined revised cost of ₹39.25 lakh crore and cumulative expenditure of ₹20.02 lakh crore, representing roughly 51% completion by value.
What Got Completed in January 2026
During the month, 3 major projects were commissioned, including the Third Railway Line between Patratu and Sonnagar (291 km), worth ₹8,975 crore, and a transmission scheme for evacuation of 4.5 GW of renewable energy at Khavda, worth ₹2,821 crore.
A further 203 new projects were brought under PAIMANA's monitoring umbrella, the majority from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, alongside large power and urban-transit projects such as the Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project Stage-II and Delhi Metro Rail Phase V-A.
Sector-wise, Transport & Logistics dominates with 1,180 projects worth ₹20.65 lakh crore, followed by the Energy sector at ₹10.84 lakh crore across 218 projects — figures that underline the continued centrality of connectivity and power infrastructure to India's growth strategy.
