General Awareness with reference to Banking Exams

General awareness or Current affairs is a big winning edge in competitive exams.

In this article we will share some tips on preparation for IAS,MBA and Banking exams.

If you are like all Aspirants who visit our site or read newspaper to prepare for current affairs, you would be remembering only ten percent of what you read after one week. This has been proved by psychological research.

The picture below is a simple illustration of the forgetting that occurs after reading.

why do we forget

The brown curve represents what we remember from one session of learning and the yellow line shows the information retained due to revision. This has been proved by research.

From this we understand that after one session on intensive or focussed learning we need to revise it again and again. But the time needed for revision reduces with increase in revision cycles.

How do we apply this to Current Affairs preparation for IAS or Bank exam.

General awareness is knowing whats happening around us. The word is “AWARENESS”. Unlike regular subjects which require thorough knowledge, current affairs is easy because it only requires awareness and not indepth knowledge.

If you are able to get some retain some idea about the event and some important facts you can very well answer the question and get more marks than your competitors.

One easy way to prepare for general awareness online is to read the article and take note of important points. Note down only what find difficult to remember. Use it like a memory aid. On seeing what you have jotted down you can easily remember all that you have read in short time. ( see the yellow curve in the graph).

Most aspirants do not do this. So if you do it you will WIN.

How much time do you spend for study and revision every week. Do you any other method of preparation. Share with us in the comment section.
