These guidelines recognize the fact that even though tsunami is a low probability event, it is capable of resulting in enormous loss of lives, loss of property, assets and public infrastructure in the coastal areas.
These Guidelines are an important step towards comprehensive tsunami risk management in India, by developing resilience to face future tsunamis and for integrating risk mitigation measures as a part of routine safety culture.
