Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology Sachin Pilot launched a service discharge benefit scheme to facilitate Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDSs), who work mainly in rural and far-flung areas across the country, post-retirement.
Under the scheme, the government will deposit Rs 200 per such worker for over 2.7 lakh of them, involving an annual expenditure of about Rs 70 crore to provide financial security to the workers and their spouses after retirement.
Pilot launched the scheme by giving away the permanent retirement account number cards to selected GDSs.
Enrollment under the scheme will be done by central record keeping agency, National Securities Depository Limited.
